Come Paddle with Us

Who can join?

NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED!

Nobody is born knowing dragon boat paddling! If you have an interest, and the ability to paddle, try us out! We start in the pool, teaching you the fundamentals of paddling, boat commands and safety.

What does the season look like?

→ During the Winter

January through April, we train on Thursday nights from 6:45 – 8:15 PM in the pool at South Side Boys and Girls Club. This gives us a chance to work on our timing and technique while building our strength and endurance before we can get into the boat. Wear comfortable exercise clothes you can move in and flip flops. Bring $10, a water bottle, towel, and change of clothes!

→ In Season

Once it is warm enough, boat practices will be conducted on Wednesday nights from 6 – 8 PM and Saturday mornings from 9 – 11 AM at East Greenwich Boat Launch. To learn to work together as a team, and find your place on the boat, it is important to attend practice regularly. Wear comfortable exercise clothes that you can move in that dry quickly and water shoes. Bring a towel, water bottle, sunscreen, bug repellent, and a change of clothes. Practices are free for paying members, and guests pay $20 for a two-practice trial.

→ Races

Competitive races are conducted in locations throughout the world on set weekend dates. The team will select and attend races, typically within the Northeast of the United States. Being available on these dates means that you have the opportunity to race with the team. When you join us, we’ll provide you with all the information you need to have a fun time!
