Who we Are
The Valkyrie Dragons was established in early 2023 to provide Rhode Island with a COMPETITIVE women’s dragon boat team. The team accepts all who identify as women regardless of age and experience, UNITED by our commitment to each other and our shared love of DRAGON BOATING, we continuously demonstrate the power of women when we all PULL TOGETHER.
Board of directors
Jennifer Potter (Director, Coach)
As a founding member of the Valkyrie Dragons, Jennifer has been involved with the sport for over 9 years as a drummer, paddler, coach, and steer person, on community, competitive, and breast cancer survivor teams. She has competed in the Northeast and internationally in the 2023 IBCPC race.
Liz McGraw (Assistant Director)
Liz is brand new to the world of Dragon Boating, picking up a paddle for the first time in May 2023. It was love at first stroke, and a passion for the sport was quickly ignited. When she’s not on the water, Liz enjoys hiking and foraging.
Marissa Piedra (Treasurer)
Marissa is born and raised in Warwick, RI, currently residing in Cranston. She’s moved around the country and world, but is happy to be back in the Ocean State. Growing up she played multiple competitive sports, and dragon boat racing brings out her competitive spirit while connecting her to a great group of strong women.
Haley Robertson (Clerk)
Haley picked up a paddle for the first time in the summer of 2023 and has loved every moment with the Valkyrie Dragons since. When she’s not on the water, Haley enjoys exploring all Rhode Island has to offer and spending time with her two cats.
